Monday Flight Week

Greetings Barrett,

We started our day at 7:00 am at Ellington Field. We entered the hangar with the C-9 "Weightless Wonder" right in front of our eyes. Tables were set up for each team to prepare for the Test Readiness Review. We started by emptying all of our bags and organizing our equipment into 3 categories: items that would be stowed on the plane, items that needed to be mounted on the plane and items that would be used during the experiments. We rehearsed for the presentation of the equipment. The review board started at our end of the tables and we were the second team to present. Fortunately we passed the review and our equipment was scooped up and weighed. It was a whopping 10 pounds!!!! However, we will have an assigned flight director to assist us in doing the experiments. They are concerned with all the movement of bodies and objects, not to mention we might be more prone for a "kill". (That means having to vomit during the flight.) Loading was a challenge because it is a very tight space and there are now 6 research groups instead of 5 and 10 extra parabolas for a total of 42! We learned about the STS-118 Educator Astronaut flight with Barbara R. Morgan set to blast off in late June. We had a group photo with all the teams in front of the plane. We ended the day with a briefing on anti-nausea strategies and were issued our flight suits. Tomorrow the first flyers, Andrea Donovan and Sally Nash, will board the plane at 9:00 Central Standard Time. (That's 10:00 Barrett time.)
